The Last of Us series premiere was a hit on HBO. But can the show keep the momentum going? Let’s look at some pictures from Episode 2.
The premiere episode began with a prologue set in the ’60s where scientists teased the possibility of a fungal plague wiping out humanity. Episode 2 will have another prologue, this one much closer to the start of the zombie apocalypse, and even more chilling:
Back in 2023, Joel, Tess and Ellie have escaped from the quarantine zone in Boston. Joel and Tess know that Ellie has been bitten by a zombie…but she isn’t turning. For 20 years, all they’ve known is that people who are bitten eventually turn, so it’s still hard to believe:
There’s some lingering suspicion on Tess and Joel’s parts. Better safe than sorry.

Still, the three of them must soldier on. Eventually, they find ways to work together:
And they’ll need teamwork, because there are a lot of threats out there, both zombie and human.
The Last of Us Episode 2 airs this Sunday, January 22, at 9:00 p.m. EST/8 central, on HBO and HBO Max. Things just get better from here!
