Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) went through the wringer in Stranger Things season 4. After a bruising battle with Vecna, we left her in a coma, fighting for her life.

Max’s fate is currently up in the air. We know that she’ll return in season 5, but whether she’ll be in fighting shape is unknown. “I would like to see her awake. I want to know if I have to get back in a body cast, I would like for that chapter to be closed,” star Sadie Sink said on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Ultimately, Sink said that she has “no clue” what’s in store for Max in the final season. I’m sure creators Matt and Ross Duffer are cooking up something very interesting. They’ve yet to disappoint.

Stranger Things star Sadie Sink hears “Running Up That Hill” everywhere!

Perhaps the most memorable scene from the entirety of season 4 was when Max is transported to Vecna’s lair in the Upside Down, and the only way she can escape is by listening to Kate Bush’s hit “Running Up That Hill.” After that, the ‘80s song quickly climbed the charts for the first time in decades, and Sadie Sink has yet to hear the end of it.

“Most recently I was in Berlin in a very tiny cafe, just me and my friend were the only people there and then of course the song starts playing,” Sink said. “Everyone in the restaurant was just kind of like [looking around] – all the servers were like ‘Ohhhh! What’s she gonna do?’ … That’s my cue to go.”

Maybe we’ll get an encore of “Running Up That Hill” in the final season. I’m sure Sink will love that.

Sadie Sink’s first-ever kiss was with Stranger Things costar Caleb McLaughlin

Sink essentially grew up on set. And one of her biggest romantic milestones happened onscreen: her first kiss. “It was with Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas,” she told W Magazine. “We were filming. You can see it on Netflix!”

"We were both awkward, but it was also funny because all our friends were there and all these extras and lights and music. It was nerve-wracking at the time, but I look back now and can laugh about it."

Hardly the most romantic moment, but definitely memorable and a fun story.

The final season of Stranger Things begins filming this year. Expect to see it return to Netflix sometime in 2024.
