Speaking with ComicBook.com, Invincible creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that a live-action movie adaptation of his long-running superhero comic book is still in the works.

“We’re very much still working on that,” Kirkman said. “Sometimes movies take a little bit longer. I think it’s safe to say, if anything, the show has just helped that immensely. People are very excited about that movie potential at Universal. So we’re riding that excitement and trying to push things forward as quickly as possible.”

The Invincible movie was first announced in 2017; all we knew then was that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were involved. The pair currently serve as executive producers on the Invincible animated show made by Amazon. The first season of that show premiered in 2021, and a new teaser trailer vaguely confirmed a late 2023 release for season 2:

Invincible season 2 could come out this year, a live-action movie to follow

Invincible follows the adventures of a young superhero named Mark Grayson, a high schooler and son of Omni-Man, an alien who has similar powers to Superman. Season 1 sees Mark begin to carve out his superhero identity while juggling a normal human life.

Kirkman is mostly known for creating The Walking Dead comic book, which he began writing in 2003. However, Invincible began in the same year and saw 144 issues published over its 15-year run. With the Amazon show an official hit, Invincible could give The Walking Dead a run for its money by the time it’s over.
