Disney+ is hard at work on an adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the fantasy book series by Rick Riordan. The cast is coming together nicely. As lead character Percy, an ordinary kid who finds out he’s the son of a Greek god, the show has tapped Walker Scobell. Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri will play his friends Annabeth and Grover, whom he meets at a camp for demi-gods.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians show casts Zeus and Poseidon

As the gods themselves, we have Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus, Jay Duplass as Hades, Megan Mullaly as the fury Alecto, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, and Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus. And now, Variety reports that the show has cast two more important parts: Lance Reddick will play Zeus, the god of thunder; and Toby Stephens will play Poseidon, the god of the sea.

Reddick is probably best known for his role as Cedric Daniels on the HBO show The Wire. He also had a lead role in Netflix’s Resident Evil, which was terrible and got canceled; as well as a supporting part in the John Wick series of movies, which is awesome and has a new film coming out this year.

Stephens, meanwhile, is known for his roles in Black SailsLost in Space, and as a Bond villain in Die Another Day. As the leader of the gods, obviously Zeus is an important role. Poseidon is also hugely important to the story of Percy Jackson, although we’ll spare you the spoilers.

Expect the Percy Jackson show to come out on Disney+ sometime in 2024.
