House of the Dragon season 2 may not be too far off in the future! According to industry publication Production List, shooting is set to start on March 6, 2023, in London and Spain. Currently, the show is labeled as “in development/pre-production.”

If you have been living under a rock for the past year, you may have missed all the hype for House of the Dragon. The series takes place around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows members of the Targaryen dynasty, then at the height of its power. Season 1 focused on King I Viserys (Paddy Considine) and the struggle to determine who would succeed him on the Iron Throne. At the end of the first season, the king was dead and war seemed afoot between two of his potential successors: his eldest child Rhaenrya and his son Aegon.

Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger as Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys’ (Elliot Grihault) was killed at the hands of the one-eyed Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his dragon Vhagar. Aemond took the eye-for-an-eye thing to the next level, and now that he’s managed to kill off Lucerys accidentally, he is sure to meet Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) wrath. It might turn into a son-for-son situation.

House of the Dragon season 2 production start date

We’ve long suspected that House of the Dragon season 2 wouldn’t air until sometime in 2024, and this matches up with that. Filming on season 2 will likely take a long time, probably towards the end of the year. Then comes post-production; there’s a lot of editing and special effects work that needs to happen to make those dragons come to life.

Fingers crossed they work their magic over at HBO and give us House of the Dragon season 2 sooner rather than later, because we all need to know what happens next!
