New Wonder Woman spin-off show is “like Game of Thrones” with Amazons

The other day, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn laid out what he hopes the next of DC looks like, announcing lots of new movies and TV shows on the way. We’re getting new movies about Superman and Batman, an HBO show about the Green Lanterns, and more.

Among the new projects he announced is Paradise Lost, a show set on Paradise Island, better known as Themyscira, the birthplace of Wonder Woman. “It’s almost like Game of Thrones with Westeros but with all the inhabitants of Paradise Island.”

We’ve seen a lot of shows take cues from Game of Thrones in the past few years, including The WitcherThe Wheel of Time and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. And of course there’s House of the Dragon, HBO’s own Game of Thrones prequel show, which has been the only one to really scratch the itch left before by the exodus of HBO’s fantasy juggernaut. Do we need another Game of Thrones-esque show? Well, maybe seeing Gunn and company try their hand at one will be interesting, although there’s still a lot we don’t know about Paradise Island.

Will Wonder Woman be in Paradise Lost?

For one thing, there’s no guarantee that Wonder Woman herself will be in this new Wonder Woman spinoff. Gal Gadot previously played Wonder Woman in four DC movies, including two solo films. But a planned third solo film was canceled, suggesting that Gadot will no longer be playing the best-known of the Amazons. So if Wonder Woman does show up in Paradise Island, we’re betting she will be played by someone new.

We also don’t know when Paradise Island might debut, or even for what service; will it be on HBO Max, HBO proper, or maybe even another service, as Gunn has said he’s willing to consider? There’s a lot left to learn about this brave new DC Universe.
