Pedro Pascal worked in years as an actor before getting his breakout role as Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones. He went on to get cast in the lead role of Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show. And now he’s starring in HBO’s new zombie show The Last of Us as main character Joel Miller.

It’s been a swift, thrilling climb for Pascal. And if he needed any more proof that he’d made it, he’s now hosted Saturday Night Live, following in the footsteps of other Game of Thrones veterans like Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington.

So how did he do? Watch Pascal’s sketches below, starting with his monologue:

Monologue: Without the mask, Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian voice sounds “porny”

Sometimes on Saturday Night Live, the monologue from the host can be a little gimmicky, as the cast play characters or the crew brings in props or something. Pascal’s monologue was refreshingly straightforward: he stood on the stage and told jokes about how people recognize him on the street, about how his family back in Chile give out his phone number without asking him, and more.

He also gets sincere towards the end as he thanks the people who got him to where he is…while also asking them to stop giving out his contact information, please. A good monologue!

Pedro Pascal plays The Big Hollywood Quiz

This sketch pokes fun at the ludicrously large number of movies and shows made in the streaming age, and how Hollywood award shows seem increasingly out of touch with what ordinary people have actually seen. Pascal and two other contestants go on a game show about Hollywood trivia, and Pascal wins with sheer luck. “Wednesday.”

Pedro Pascal cracks up while putting on a silly accent

Pedro Pascal plays a guy who has trouble talking after coming out of a coma. This sketch is all about the funny voice; Pascal can’t get through the whole thing without cracking up a bit himself.

Pedro Pascal is a sexy teacher who doesn’t understand Gen Z kids

Playing off Pascal’s reputation as a sex symbol of a certain age, this sketch cast him as a high school teacher befuddled by his Gen Z students, who make fan cams of him and pummel him with slang he doesn’t understand. It was cute, with lots of enthusiasm on both sides.

Also, Pascal’s good friend Sarah Paulson showed up for a cameo that referenced the long-standing rumors that the two of them are together.

Pedro Pascal plays Mario in a parody of The Last of Us

We get a full-on parody sketch as SNL treats us to its dark reimagining of Mario Kart, with Pedro Pascal as Mario. The whole thing is a send-up of The Last of Us, the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie starring Chris Pratt, as well as the rash of grim remakes and reboots that have come out over the last several years.

“Let’s…a go.” Would watch.

Wing Pit

In this pre-filmed segment, Pascal is part of a party that becomes uncomfortable as a local wing restaurant inundates the guests with deals they don’t want, eventually burying them in wings.

Pascal is pretty much just part of the ensemble here. The real stars are the editing and the props.

Pedro Pascal gets in drag as an overprotective mother

Pascal had fun with this one: he plays a mother meeting her son’s new girlfriend for the first time. She and her son talk back in forth in broken Spanish, using just enough English to let the girlfriend know they’re not saying the nicest things about her. Pascal looks like he’s having a ton of fun in this sketch!

Pedro Pascal is a rude Italian waiter

In one of the weaker sketches of the night, Pascal and other cast members play a team of rude Italian waiters who pick on one woman in a group of five in the hope of getting bigger tips from the other ones. Meh.

Ego Nwodim cracks up Pedro Pascal (and everybody else) at a restaurant

Finally, Pascal joined other cast members at a restaurant where a very entertaining Ego Nwodim ordered a steak that was way too hard and then proceeded to make it everyone’s problem. Pascal wasn’t really the focus of this sketch, but he was definitely having a great time. Pretty much no one could keep a straight face!

Overall, Pascal did an able job holding down the show. His best showcase was probably the sketch where he played the overly critical mother; he was really enjoying that. Pascal can now add “Saturday Night Live host” to his long list of career accomplishments.
