And just like that, the fourth and final season of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy is officially in production. While no one likes to know that one of their favorite shows is nearing its inevitable conclusion, there is a lot to be excited for as this series looks to wrap up its zany, wild story.
This series about a family of dysfunctional superheroes has been a goldmine for Netflix ever since it premiered back in 2019. I was surprised to learn that the original comic book was written by the lead performer of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way. That is pretty cool, right?
Anyway, things are happening over in Toronto as the east gets together for one final hurrah. Check out the announcement photo below:
Nick Offerman may join the cast of The Umbrella Academy for final season
For those who haven’t watched the series, here’s the best description I can give you: The story begins with a group of unrelated women who all give birth to children on the very same day…despite not having been pregnant moments before. Of the children born, seven of them are adopted by billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who aspired to transform them into world-renowned superheroes. Instead they grow into broken, superpowered adults who can’t seem to avoid getting caught up in one apocalypse after another.
Expect the returns of actors like Tom Hopper (Luther), Elliot Page (Viktor) and Aidan Gallagher (Number Five), but there could be some new faces too. According to sources at What’s On Netflix, Parks and Recreation and The Last of Us star Nick Offerman will join the cast.
Allegedly, Offerman will play Gerald, an “eccentric small-town mayor.” There isn’t a Gerald in the comics, so this character would be completely made up for the series. But if there are going to be any deviations from the source material, I’m glad they involve Offerman.
Other returning cast members include Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castañeda, Justin H. Min, Colm Feore, Robert Sheehan and Ritu Arya. We’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for any more additions.
The Umbrella Academy’s fourth and final season will have six episodes. We don’t have a release date yet, but I’d guess early 2024.
