During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week, The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal teased “big battles” and more Mandalorians in season 3 of the popular Disney+ show.

“I will say there will be more Mandalorians,” Pascal said when Fallon pressed him about season 3. “A lot of them. A big battle, plural maybe.”

We have seen glimpses of these new Mandalorians in the trailer for season 3, but we do not know the details of the battle/battles in question. I would theorize that the conflict will stem from Pascal’s character Din Djarin being in possession of the Darksaber, which he acquired in a 1v1 duel with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in season 2. The owner of the Dark Saber is traditionally viewed as the ruler of the planet Mandalore by its people.

The wars to come in The Mandalorian season 3

Although the planet Mandalore is destroyed and its divided clans scattered throughout the galaxy, they may be willing to unite now that the Darksaber is in the hands of a Mandalorian and not with the Empire. The problem is that Bo Katan Kryze also has aspirations of ruling Mandalore; she previously held the Darksaber, which was given to her by Sabine Wren in Star Wars: Rebels. But because Kryze did not win the Saber in combat, certain clans did not support her claim and thought she was relying on her blood claim through her sister Dutchess Satine. Djarin’s clan, the Children of the Watch, was one of the clans that did not support Kryze’s claim.

In addition to not obtaining the Darksaber in combat, Kryze lost the Saber to Moff Gideon. Djarin not only got it back Gideon, he did it by defeating him in battle, which will go a long way in the other Mandalorians viewing him in as a true leader.

The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ on March 1 with eight new episodes.
