Fear The Walking Dead is getting ready to head into its eighth and final season later this year. I can’t quite believe that the end is nigh for the spin-off series that followed in the footsteps of The Walking Dead. In many ways, it was very similar to the flagship show, but still managed to stand on its own with unique storylines and memorable characters.

The final season of Fear the Walking Dead was announced during the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Showrunners and executive producers revealed that not only would the series be concluding, but the final season would be split into two parts of six episodes apiece for a total of 12.

Series star Danay García (Luciana) spoke about the final season during an Instagram Live session and shared that she feels “it’s time” to close out the show after nearly a decade. While I’m bummed that the show is ending, I think I’d have to agree with that sentiment!

Fear The Walking Dead star Danay García talks final season

“One of the funniest questions I get asked is, ‘What happened to Fear the Walking Dead that it’s ending?’ Nothing happened,” García shared. “What happened is that we’ve been on the air for eight seasons, and we felt like it was a really fun run. Nothing really happened to Fear. It’s just that we’ve been on the air for quite some time, and it’s the time [to end].”

When a show decides to end its run, it’s natural to have mixed feelings. However, all good shows know when it’s time to wrap up, and Fear the Walking Dead is no different.

And hey, we’ve got an entire Walking Dead universe to look forward to, including a spinoff aobut Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), the Daryl Dixon spinoff, and a show about Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira)! So fret not folks; we’ve got a lot of zombies headed our way in the near future.

Official synopsis for Fear the Walking Dead season 8

As far as what the final season of Fear the Walking Dead will be about? The official synopsis is as follows (and it sounds epic):

"The eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead kicks off with the first six episodes following Morgan (Lennie James) and Madison’s (Kim Dickens) plans to rescue Mo from PADRE, and seven years later — Morgan, Madison and the rest of the people they brought to the island are living under PADRE’s cynical rule. With our characters demoralized and dejected, the task of reigniting everyone’s belief in a better world is the person Morgan and Madison set out to rescue in the first place — a now eight-year-old Mo (Zoey Merchant)."

I’m really excited about Dickens’ return to the series but I’m really bummed that Alycia Debnam Carey (Alicia) is no longer there. I really wanted to see these two characters reunite and face the apocalypse together after all this time. It was like the show was building up to that moment but then Carey exited the show. But who knows, perhaps AMC has something up its sleeve and we’ll get a cameo!

Fear the Walking Dead’s final season will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, May 14, with Part 2 premiering later this year.

James Marsden still hopes they can finish Westworld. dark. Next
