Per Variety, Amazon is making a live-action Spider-Man series! That said, before you get too excited, it’s not about Peter Parker or Miles Morales. Rather, this is a show about Spider-Man Noir, an older, grittier version of Spider-Man active during the Depression. On the big screen, Spider-Man Noir showed up in 2019’s Into the Spider-Verse, where he was voiced by Nicolas Cage.

The new show will be produced by Sony Pictures Television, Sony being the company that has the screen rights to Spider-Man. They’re the people behind Marvel movies that aren’t quite Marvel movies, like the Venom films or the disaster that was MorbiusInto the Spider-Verse was great, though; the sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, comes out in theaters this June.

Speaking of that, Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller helped develop this new show alongside writer Oren Uziel. They’ll also serve as executive producers.

Amazon goes all in on Spider-Man shows

In addition, Amazon is developing a separate live-action Spider-series called Silk: Spider Society, from The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang. Sony has access to 900 Spider-Man characters, people, so this could go on for a while.

Having this separate Spider-Verse alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been a little awkward, especially since Sony and Marvel share custody of Spider-Man Number One: Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. So he can, in theory, move in both worlds, but every other hero is cordoned off in one or the other.

But as long as the shows are good, it won’t really matter. There’s no release date for Spider-Man Noir as of yet.
