The Peripheral renewed for season 2 at Amazon Prime Video!
By Daniel Roman
It’s official: Deadline reports that Amazon has renewed its mind-bending science fiction show The Peripheral for a second season.
Based on the novel of the same name by William Gibson, The Peripheral follows Flynn Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz), an ace gamer from the rural South who is drawn into a futuristic time travel conspiracy. The series aired last fall on Prime Video, and despite having an extremely solid run which resonated with critics and viewers, it’s been a nail-biting wait to see whether Amazon would continue the series.
Fortunately, The Periphal season 2 is now a go! Season 1 ended with a huge game-changer as Flynn took drastic action to ensure the safety of her timeline. If the show continues to follow Gibson’s novels, season 2 will adapt elements from the second book in the author’s Jackpot trilogy, Agency.
The Peripheral will return for season 2 at Amazon Prime Video
The Peripheral is produced by Amazon Studios and Warner Bros. Television with Kilter Films, a production company helmed by Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. A Simple Plan writer Scott B. Smith serves as showrunner.
“We are thrilled to continue the journey into Season Two and delve deeper into the incredible world that Gibson created,” said Joy and Nolan in a statement. “On behalf of Scott Smith, Vincenzo Natali, and the entire team, we’re grateful to our partners at Amazon and, most of all, to the fans.”
“William’s mind-bending story in partnership with the brilliant minds of Scott and Jonathan and Lisa, produced an unforgettable journey for our global audience and we are thrilled with how they embraced the series,” added Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios. “We look forward to extending our partnership with Warner Bros. and Kilter Films as this uniquely ambitious series continues to unfold.”
Given that this news is just now breaking, it’s likely we’ll be waiting a while for season 2 of The Peripheral, but it’s a huge relief to know that it’s on the way!
