HBO’s zombie drama The Last of Us is dropping a new episode early this week. Following the episode “Please Hold to My Hand,” HBO announced that the follow-up fifth episode would be hitting HBO Max on Friday as opposed to its usual Sunday time slot, the better to avoid competing with the Super Bowl.

If you’re as excited about the early release of Episode 5 of The Last of Us as we are, you’re probably wondering what time it’ll be hitting HBO Max on Friday. Fear not! We’re here to let you know exactly when you can get your next Last of Us fix.

The Last of Us Episode 5 release date and time

“Please Hold to My Hand” was the first episode in a two-part arc that sees our heroes Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) cross paths with brothers Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Keivonn Woodard). That episode ended with a cliffhanger which made the wait for Episode 5 particularly tough, as we just saw the two parties meet before the credits rolled.

Fortunately, the show’s fifth episode “Endure and Survive” is hitting HBO Max on Friday at 9:00 p.m. ET. In essence, it’s airing the same way it normally would on a Sunday night on HBO Max, but two days early.

As for the linear viewers watching on the HBO channel, unfortunately you’ll still have to wait for Sunday. “Endure and Survive” will air on Sunday on HBO in its regular 9:00 p.m. ET time slot.

After that, The Last of Us will be back to its normal airing schedule with new episodes hitting HBO and HBO Max simultaneously on Sunday nights. Unless, of course, the network decides to pull another fast one on us. It’s the streaming wars, anything can happen!

Don’t miss “Endure and Survive” this Friday at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO Max!
