The Expanse: Dragon Tooth sequel comic crushes Kickstarter goal
By Daniel Roman
A couple weeks back we reported that Amazon’s sci-fi show The Expanse was returning with a brand new comic run from BOOM! Studios, and today we’re back with more good news: the deluxe pre-order Kickstarter campaign that Boom! Studios was running has totally smashed its goal. If Beltalowdas and Inyalowdas can agree on one thing, it’s that everyone wants more of The Expanse.
The Expanse: Dragon Tooth is a brand new comic series coming out next year from BOOM! Studios, the same company that produced the excellent The Expanse: Origins comics, in collaboration with The Expanse co-authors Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham (known jointly as James S.A. Corey) and artwork from Rubine (Voltron: Legendary Defender). The series will be written by legendary comic scribe Andy Diggle.
Over the course of 12 issues, Dragon Tooth will cover a never-before-seen part of The Expanse mythos: the lives and journeys of the characters during the 30-year time jump between books 6 and 7, Babylon’s Ashes and Persepolis Rising. This makes The Expanse: Dragon Tooth a sequel of sorts to the TV series, which had its curtain call on Amazon with its sixth season, which adapted the book Babylon’s Ashes.
The Expanse: Dragon Tooth Kickstarter is a wild success
The Expanse: Dragon Tooth Kickstarter had a pretty safe goal of $25,000. As of this writing, it has raised $647,206 from nearly 5,000 backers, totally shattering that initial funding goal.
The Kickstarter was specifically designed to give fans of the series pre-order incentives and cool deluxe bonuses for getting behind the comic series early in production; when Dragon Tooth was announced it was made clear that this thing was gonna happen either way. But it’s still exciting to see just how much The Expanse fandom came out to support this next chapter in the saga.
There are still 23 days left to go on The Expanse: Dragon Tooth Kickstarter, should you want to get in on all the pre-order bonuses on offer. If there’s one thing The Expanse fans have proven time and again, it’s that they’re willing to show up for this beloved series.
