It’s good news for fans of Amazon Prime Video’s subversive superhero drama The Boys, as showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that the show will continue on after its fourth season.

Kripke posted to Twitter on Sunday to share that The Boys is currently filming its season 4 finale in Toronto, Canada. But after receiving a lot of comments wondering if this finale might be the end of the series, he returned to dispel any doubts.

The Boys showrunner sort of confirms season 5 is in the works

“Cause you’re asking! We’ve been shooting since late August. I’m here to prep & direct the Season 4 finale. No, not the series finale, there will be more. Most importantly, S4 premieres… at some point in the future in our discernible reality,” Kripke wrote on Twitter.

The Boys is one of the more successful original series that Amazon has launched; while it isn’t a surprise to hear that it’ll go on after season 4, it’s still nice to get this kind of a soft confirmation from the showrunner. Kripke is a seasoned TV veteran and the creator of the long-running series Supernatural, so he’s got a proven track record of being able to keep shows going for the long haul. Considering that Prime Video is also launching a live-action spinoff for The Boys — the college show Gen V — it’s clear they’re invested in this universe.

You also have to love how Kripke teased The Boys season 4 release date as “some point in the future of discernible reality,” not dissimilar from how Gen V teased its release date “sometime between now and December 31” on the new year.

So yeah, we don’t know exactly when The Boys season 4 or Gen V are coming out, but both are expected to air sometime this year. And it won’t be the end for Homelander, Billy Butcher, Hughie, Starlight and all the rest!
