The Walking Dead is over, but the franchise isn’t ending anytime soon. There’s a slate of interesting spinoffs in development which will take the story in new directions. Dead City takes place in a post-apocalyptic New York City. And later this year, the Daryl Dixon series forays across the pond to France.

In the spinoff, Daryl is captured and finds himself in France. As he tries to navigate his way back home, circumstances occur that make him stick around. “The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home,” the synopsis reads. “As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.”

Let’s meet the new cast members. Sadly, we only have the actor and the character’s name at the moment. There’s no descriptions yet:

  • Anne Charrier (The Last Deadly Mission) as Genet
  • Eriq Ebanouey (Fox Hunt) as Fallou
  • Laika Blanc Francard (My Night) as Sylvie
  • Romain Levi (The Tunnel) as Codron
  • Louis Puech Scigliuzzi as Laurent

One thing these new cast members have in common is that they’re all French actors. I mean, that makes total sense, the story is set in France. It’s a massive culture shock for Daryl. “People are speaking French around me,” Reedus told Entertainment Weekly, “and part of my story is me trying to figure out, ‘Is this good or is this bad? Are we about to get into a fight or are we friends right now?’ I’m trying to read lips with the language that I don’t understand and I’m reading body language, I’m reading tone. I’m reading all sorts of things, and it’s confusing and I’m figuring it out.”

The Walking Dead has visited France once before, during a post-credits scene in World Beyond season two. In the scene, Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) of the CDC is on video call to French scientists. The scene sets up the arrival of faster, stronger variant zombies.

The Walking Dead Rick and Michonne spinoff begins production!

The return of the king! It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to see Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) back on our screens. Remember the trilogy of Rick movies they were gonna make at one point? They were cancelled. Instead, Rick and Michonne’s story will continue in the form of a six-episode series. Originally scheduled for late 2023, the series will now air in early 2024.

Despite numerous setbacks, we’ve recently had a little bit of positive news: the spinoff has officially entered production. And we have the blurry behind-the-scenes photograph of Andrew Lincoln to prove it, shared by the official Walking Dead Twitter page:

The Daryl Dixon show is set to premiere later this year. Before that, however, we’ll see Walking Dead stars Maggie and Negan head to New York City in Dead City, which will release in April.
