Netflix drops early teaser for Vikings: Valhalla season 3

The second season of Vikings: Valhalla debuted just last month, but Netflix is already gearing people up for what comes next. The streamer ordered multiple seasons of show show at once, and has actually been working on season 3 for a while. There may not be a proper trailer yet, but there is footage. Watch below!

It’s possible that Netflix ordered seasons 2 and 3 of Vikings: Valhalla together to avoid the long wait times that seem to plague big budget adventure series like this; see the long waits for shows like House of the DragonThe Wheel of Time and The Rings of Power for proof. The third season of Vikings: Valhalla will drop in 2024, just a year after the second.

What awaits Leif, Freydís and Harald in Vikings: Valhalla season 3?

At the end of season 2, characters like Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett), Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson) and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) found themselves exiles from their homeland. As showrunner Jeb Stuart explained the Collider, that roughly lines up with actual history, give or take this series’ usual penchant for exaggeration and invention.

“From a historical standpoint, Harald got thrust out of Scandinavia and so these guys become fugitives from that point on, and that really set the standard because we then had to build the Viking legacy, as Leo says, outside of Scandinavia,” Stuart said. “You have to be a Viking somewhere else, and it is a challenge, and it’s great for all their characters.”

"I knew what Season 3 was going to be. I knew where Season 3 was going to be because of that change of culture, I knew that we have to eventually get to the New World. So what’s in the toolbox? How do we fill up Leif’s toolbox, and what does Freydis bring to get these people, who are the last hold out of the Pagan faith? And we know what’s happening in Europe at that time. So it’s exciting for us. And so yes, I’m not doing this season by season."

Stuart would be interested in going beyond season 3, as well, but that’s a bridge we’ll cross (or not) when we get there.
