King Viserys inducts Criston Cole into the Kingsguard
In another deleted scene from Episode 2, King Viserys formally makes Ser Criston Cole a member of the Kingsguard. I would have liked to keep this scene, because it helps explain how much being a Kingsguard knight means to Criston Cole, which would help explain why he has a meltdown later when he breaks his vows by sleeping with Rhaenrya.
And by the way, there is no deleted scene explaining how he gets away with murdering a guy at a wedding in Episode 5. That one just hangs there.
Rhaenrya plays with Baby Aegon
Some scenes on this list aren’t exactly “deleted” so much as never filmed. For instance, in the script for Episode 3, there’s a bit where Rhaenrya bounces her baby brother Aegon on her lap and tries to teach him to pronounce her name correctly, which can be hard enough for full-grown adults to do. I’m not sure if it was ever filmed, though.
That could have been an intriguing moment. We know Rhaenyra feels ambivalent about her half-brother, since some people in the kingdom think that he’s the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Eventually, these two will go to war over the throne, so it could have been interesting to see them bonding a bit in their younger days.
Daemon Targaryen flirts with a male servant
In Episode 6, when Daemon is living with his wife Laena Velaryon and their twin daughters in Pentos, we briefly see him make eyes at a male servant. Later, in a cut scene, they’re canoodling together. Daemon is pretty shameless when it comes to cheating; Laena catches them and Daemon seems not to mind too much.
We get better looks at Dreamfyre and Sunfyre
In Episode 7, most of our characters gather on Driftmark for the funeral of Laena Targaryen, and they bring their dragons. This is the biggest gathering of dragons in the season, but we don’t get too many close-ups, which makes sense; dragons are expensive to animate.
But in the original storyboards, we were supposed to get better looks at Aegon’s dragon Sunfyre and Helaena’s dragon Dreamfyre. It would have been especially cool to get a better look at Sunfyre, since he’s supposed to be the most beautiful dragon alive in Westeros at the time.
