In one of the more surprising pop cultures stories to crop up over the last bunch of months, we learned that Henry Cavill, known for playing Superman on the big screen, was leaving the role of Geralt of Rivia, the witcher from Netflix’s The Witcher. (He’s not playing Superman anymore either, incidentally.)
Why is he leaving? Reports vary, but we know he’s out after the upcoming third season of the show, which will air this summer. Starting in season 4, Geralt will be played by Liam Hemsworth, best known for playing Gale in The Hunger Games movies and for having a more famous older brother. (And also Luke.)
What might that look like? YouTuber StryderHD has used deepfake technology to give us a glimpse into our possible future. Behold:
See what Liam Hemsworth may look like as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher season 4
Honestly, if you have to recast Henry Cavill, you could do worse than Liam Hemsworth. I’m sure he can gruffly drop f-bombs with the best of them. But of course, what everyone really ones is for Cavill to stick around.
But he won’t! Hemsworth will replace Cavill come The Witcher season 4, which probably won’t be out until 2024 at the earliest. He’ll also play Geralt in season 5, which is looking like it’ll be the final season.
Until then, we have one more season to enjoy Cavill in the title role: The Witcher season 3 comes out on Netflix this summer.
