Amazon is in the thick of filming on the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which currently holds the record as the most expensive TV show ever produced.

According to The Sun, some folks from the British Royal family recently visited the set: Prince William, who’s next in line for the throne after his father Charles vacates the set, along with his wife princess Kate and their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte. They have another kid, Louis, but he’s young and apparently the set visit was too late in the day for him.

It seems that William is a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings films, so he was pleased to visit the set in England. “They were introduced to the major cast members and were shown around the set,” said a source. “It was all hugely exciting for George and Charlotte who loved looking at the props and how everything was laid out.”

This reminds me a little of the time that Queen Elizabeth II visited the set of Game of Thrones, but decided not to sit on the Iron Throne as it would have been inappropriate for a sitting monarch to do so.

There are some monarchs in the world of The Lord of the Rings — Tar-Míriel is the Queen of Númenor, for instance — but I don’t recall any thrones from the show, so there were probably limited opportunities for the younger batch of royals to disgrace themselves and their country.
