Bella Ramsey is currently crushing it on The Last of Us as Ellie, a precocious teenager trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic United States. A lot of fans first fell in love with Ellie thanks to her role on Game of Thrones. She played Lyanna Mormont, the pre-teen leader of Bear Island. Knowing how fierce Lyanna was, it’s no surprise that she can embody someone as courageous and spunky as Ellie.

Ramsey first appeared as Lyanna in Game of Thrones season 6, and was on straight through to the end in season 8. She talked about her early days on the series with GQ. “ were very, very kind to me,” she remembered. “The one who really sticks out to me is Liam Cunningham, who played Davos. He really was protective over me.”

For whatever reason, Liam Cunningham tended to have great scenes opposite child actors on Game of Thrones. For several seasons he had great stuff with Kerry Ingram, who played Stannis Baratheon’s daughter Shireen. And he had chemistry with Ramsey in Lyanna’s very first scene:

No, Bella Ramsey was never barred from watching Game of Thrones

Bella Ramsey is 19 years old now, younger when she filmed the first season of The Last of Us, a quite a bit younger when she filmed Game of Thrones. At the time, there were reports that her parents didn’t allow her to watch the show, which was famously sexy and violent.

Apparently those reports were exaggerated. “That was completely misinterpreted,” she said. “I’d seen a lot of six, seven and eight by that point. The earlier seasons I’ve seen bits of.”

Lyanna Mormont died in the final season of Game of Thrones, so we’ll never see how awesome of a ruler she would have been as an adult. But Ellie has a long life ahead of her on The Last of Us. New episodes of that show drop Sunday nights on HBO and HBO Max.
