Outlander author Diana Gabaldon just made many, many fans happy by sharing an excerpt from a yet-to-be-written spinoff book entitled What Frank Knew. Gabaldon shared with her Facebook followers that this book could eventually be written, but was adamant in saying that she is “NOT actively working on this book yet.”

She didn’t share much about the book apart from the excerpts, but if the title is any clue, I’d say it’s all about Frank Randall (played by Tobias Menzies in the series), Claire’s husband from before she traveled back in time and met Jamie Fraser.

Gabaldon shared in the Facebook post that the excerpts are just a fragment of the book she eventually plans to write. She also mentioned she does have the copyright to the story even though it isn’t written. Repeat: not written!

Unwritten Outlander spinoff book teases a story about Frank Randall

Nonetheless, a tiny sneak peek into the eventual story has me super excited for what the future holds:

Here is the excerpt that Gabaldon shared:

"Never put anything in writing.’ That’s the first thing the instructor at [ ] said to us. Everyone laughed—including the instructor—as all of us were sitting there, pens in hands poised over our clean new notebooks, ready to scribble down the rudiments of withstanding interrogation.Heady stuff, that. At the time.Ironic, in retrospect. I was a historian when the war started. And a historian’s chief job is to write things down. Save things from being forgotten. Rescue things that were forgotten, when possible. See, save, rescue—and most importantly, pass them on. Within a simple but elegant setting of your own perceptions and interpretations. You hope. Both history and intelligence work give you a unique appreciation for truth; I’ll say that much.So does being married."

Based on the excerpt, it appears that Frank is looking back at a time before World War II started. He mentions being married, so he and Claire are likely together at this point in the story.

Gabaldon did not share details on when she may write this Outlander spinoff book, or even if she ever will. But if she shared a snippet, I’m betting she’ll get to eventually. Here’s hoping we’ll learn more soon!

Next. The Last of Us scene that gave Bella Ramsey (Ellie) a “real black eye”. dark
