Shadow and Bone teasers introduce Wylan, Nikolai, Tamar and Tolya
In addition to reuniting us with our favorite characters from season 1, Shadow and Bone season 2 promises to make us fall in love with a set of new characters who will play a crucial part in the story. And this week, we were given teaser introductions to the four most prominent.
Fans familiar with author Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows books have long since been curious about how and when Wylan (Jack Wolfe) will factor into the story. The teaser doesn’t tell us how exactly how he ties into the plot, but it does confirm that he will be very important to a plan that Kaz (Freddy Carter) is hatching. The season 2 trailer shows Wylan setting off a bomb of some kind, hinting at his skills. In this teaser, we hear Wylan say “I guess he [Kaz] knew I was good with chemicals… he asked me to make a few phosphorous bombs for him”; whatever it is that Wylan is up to with the crows this season, it’ll be explosive.
Keen-eared fans will remember that in season 1 Jesper (Kit Young) said to Kaz, “We need a demo man!” It seems that Jesper’s wish has finally been fulfilled by Wylan, who was introduced on Twitter:
Nikolai, Tamar and Tolya are ready for adventure in Shadow and Bone season 2
Meanwhile, fans familiar with Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy have been waiting with bated breath for fan favorite character Nikolai (Patrick Gibson) to appear, along with the two key members of his crew: Tamar (Anna Leong Brophy) and Tolya (Lewis Tan). Whilst the teaser introducing these three still keeps some things under wraps, it hints at what to expect from these characters. Nikolai says, “Adventure… danger… now you’re speaking my language!” And we see clips of him steering a flying ship across the screen. Says it all.
Tamar is introduced in a similar way, with her saying, “It sounds important… or dangerous, I can never tell the difference,” appropriate for a member of a ragtag adventure crew. We see her wielding her axes, ready for action. Tolya (Tamar’s twin brother, who she refers to as “little brother” in the teaser) is shown with a sword; in the teaser we get the impression that he is the grounding force in this group. He says to Tamar “Definitely important. Let’s go,” keeping her focused on the task at hand.
We will see how this new group of characters fit in among the older ones when Shadow and Bone season 2 premieres on Netflix on March 16.
