Attack on Titan: Everything you need to know before the final episodes
By Anwesha Nag
Taking a stand
Hange and Levi meet up with Pieck and Marleyan Commander Magath. Gradually the squad expands as Annie returns and is joined by the rest of the team: Reiner, Pieck, Armin, Jean, Connie, Mikasa, Falco and Gabi. This new group is made up of people who have fought each other in the past, but they all agree that stopping Eren from trampling the entire world is a cause worth teaming up over.
Yelena and Onyankopon are rescued before Floch Forster and other Yeagerists execute them. Amidst all the chaos, Magath finds the time to offer a genuine apology to the Eldians for all the hurt caused, starting from the breaking of the wall by Reiner and Bertholdt Hoover back in season 1.
As the squad tries to fly off from the island in an Azumabito ship, a skirmish with the positioned Yeagerists escalate into a full-blown battle. As Reiner and Annie transform into their titan forms, we get to see the Female Titan for the first time since the Battle of Stohess. We also witness Falco’s Jaw Titan form for the first time.
Connie and Armin are forced to confront and even kill their former comrades, who were now part of the Floch-led Yeagerists. Someone destroys the incoming reinforcements for the Yeagerists. He is later revealed to be Keith Shadis, the head instructor of the 104th training corps from the good old days.
In one of the bravest sacrifices on the show, Shadis and Magath stay back to fight the remaining Yeagerists as the rest of the squad escapes. They blow up a ship together with them still inside after taking a moment to exchange their names.
“What am I to you?”
In the most recent episode, we open in a happier time. In a flashback, we see how the Scouts arrived on Marley and witnessed life outside of Paradis for the first time. They also see how Eldians are treated in the outside world.
The squad spends the night eating, drinking, laughing, and joking, probably for the last time before everything falls apart. We get to see Sasha Brause one last time as well.
At one point, Eren asks Mikasa, “What am I to you?”, but Mikasa fails to express her true feelings for him. She answers that she sees him as family, only to wonder much later if she should have given a different answer.
In the final moments of the last season, the Rumbling destroys the sea barricade created by the military alliance of the world. The Colossal Titans swim across the ocean to step onto the lands beyond, crushing everyone except Eldians under their foot.
Before the end of the year, Attack on Titan will be over. It’s been intense so far and things are just getting going. It all starts on March 3!
