Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Bernthal will be reprising his role as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in Daredevil: Born Again.
Last year, Marvel announced that it would be bringing Daredevil into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Born Again, an18-episode Disney+ show. What’s more, Charlie Cox, who played the characters for three seasons on the Netflix show Daredevil, would return to the role, as would Vincent D’Onofrio, who played the villain Kingpin. Cox has already appeared as Daredevil in Spider Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk while D’Onofrio appeared as Kingpin in the Hawkeye.
Bernthal has yet to make an appearance in the MCU; he last played Frank Castle in his own Netflix show The Punisher. That show was canceled alongside Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage; this was when Disney was gathering all of its Marvel content to Disney+.
Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) won’t be on Daredevil: Born Again
Born Again is expected to start filming in New York later this month. It is unknown how the Punisher will be included as the character did not appear in the comic run of the same name. Fellow Daredevil stars Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) are not expected to appear in Born Again, much to fans’ chagrin, as both of those characters are essential to Daredevil’s story and played large roles in the Netflix show. It is disappointing that Woll and Henson are allegedly not coming back. It is unclear if their characters will not appear or if they are being recast.
Bernthal’s portrayal of The Punisher was met with high praise. He has perfected the tough guy persona and become iconic for playing characters in that space. Some of his other roles include Shane Walsh (The Walking Dead), Johnny Soprano (The Many Saints of Newark), Grady Travis (Fury) and Griff (Baby Driver).
Daredevil: Born Again is expected to come out on Disney+ in 2024.
