Marc Guggenheim, the co-creator of the Arrowverse on The CW, is pretty disappointed that he was left out of discussions regarding the new DC Cinematic Universe. Peter Safran and James Gunn are now in charge of DC on the big screen, and they aren’t interested with talking with any of the people who created the last DC Universe.
Guggenheim is one of those people. I mean, the guy helped create an entire universe of DC superheroes on TV, from Arrow to The Flash and beyond; would a phone call have hurt?
Arrowverse co-creator feels he wasted his time with DCTV shows
In Guggenheim’s Legal Dispatch newsletter, he revealed how disappointed he felt that Safran and Gunn didn’t call him regarding all the major changes coming to the DCU. It’s not that he wanted a job, but it would have been nice to be consulted. “A meeting. A conversation. A small recognition of what I’d tried to contribute to the grand tapestry that is the DC Universe. I’d only spent nine years toiling in that vineyard, after all,” Guggenheim wrote.
"Although working for DC had been creatively fulfilling, it involved a lot of adversity, challenges, and personal sacrifices — none of which seem to have accrued to any professional benefit. Simply put, the Arrowverse hasn’t led to any other gigs, so it feels — at least on a career level — that I really wasted my time."
I empathize with Guggenheim. He was one of the minds behind “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the epic Arrowverse crossover event that will go down as one of the most amazing feats of TV in the past few years. It was amazing, so I can see why he felt he was worth at least consulting as the DCU enters a new era.
They could have just asked for his opinion or some guidance as they began constructing this new universe. He does have the experience and the insight, so Marc Guggenheim, we hear you and see you, and we hope you accrue some benefits for giving so much to the DCTV universe.
