For the last few weeks, Netflix has been slowly building hype for the second season of Shadow and Bone. With the premiere right around the corner, today Netflix dropped two big new pieces of information: a post discussing the titles of the episodes, and a video reminding viewers of the events of season 1 while also dropping hints for season 2.
Speaking to Tudum, showrunners Eric Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind discussed the new episode titles; this time around, they decided they could draw from more books in Leigh Bardugo’s series. “That meant looking at the theme of each episode and figuring out where we’re sending our characters or what our characters are leading us towards,” Heisserer said.
The season 2 premiere episode is entitled “No Shelter But Me,” a title directly taken from Leigh Bardugo’s novel Ruin & Rising. Heisserer says that this “felt like a good descriptor for the fact that both Alina and Mal and our Crows find themselves without any allies and in some pretty deep trouble.”
Fryklind noted that Episodes 5 and 6 (titled “Yuyeh Sesh (Despise Your Heart)” and “Ni Weh Sesh (I Have No Heart)”) are “very tied together. They’re a real call and response.” Grishaverse fans will be aware these are Shu proverbs, suggesting that this season could take us to the country of Shu Han. “We’ve mentioned that we’re broadening our map,” Fryklind say said. “So it is a nod toward where the story is headed.”

All eight episode titles for Shadow and Bone season 2 revealed
Meanwhile, a new video from Netflix reminds fans that Shadow and Bone blends “Leigh Bardugo’s books from the Shadow and Bone trilogy and Six of Crows duology” and that “n the final scene of season 1, the Darkling […] emerged from the Shadow Fold more powerful than ever.” This sets the scene for the events of season 2, where Sun Summoner Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) “must embark on a transcontinental quest to take down the Fold and defeat the Darkling once and for all.” This plot will involve hunting down two amplifiers with the aid of characters both old and new.
We’re also reminded in this video of a second group of characters, the Crows, who are “on an entirely different quest for vengeance… with a couple of new allies.”
