Willow, the TV show sequel to Ron Howard’s 1988 fantasy movie of the same name, will not be coming back for a second season, per Deadline. This news comes a little over two months after the first season finale dropped on Disney+.

Deadline notes that while Disney is canceling the Willow show, Willow remains an important property to them and it may be revisited in the future. The show was a decent-sized hit with critics but didn’t stir up much buzz. It featured a few characters from the original movie, most notably Warwick Davis’ would-be wizard Willow Ufgood and Joanne Whalley’s Queen Sorsha, but didn’t include Val Kilmer’s disgraced knight Madmartigan, although that was the original plan. Other cast members included Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Amer Chadha-Patel and Tony Revolori.

Overall, we found the show to be kinda meh, so I personally am not too broken up about the fact that it won’t be coming back, although I’m sorry if you were looking forward to more of this.

Disney cancels Willow sequel show after one season

The cancelation comes as more studios are taking a look at their balance sheets and making choices about what shows and movies are really worth it. That includes Disney, which has shelved multiple Star Wars movies lately. For a while there, studios were spending on new streaming content left and right, but those days may be coming to an end, and middling shows like Willow are likely the first things that will go.

You can stream the one and only season of Willow now on Disney+.
