Kit Harington: House of the Dragon is “hard for me to watch”

A couple months back, we wrote about how Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) was refusing to watch HBO’s new prequel series House of the Dragon. “It’s too weird,” she said. “I’m so happy it’s happening. I’m over the moon about all the awards…I just can’t do it. It’s so weird. It’s so strange. It’s kind of like someone saying, ‘You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? Want to go to that school reunion?’ That’s how it feels. I’m avoiding it.”

And that’s fair enough. Clarke was involved with the show for all eight seasons. She lived that life, so to watch other actors say similar things in similar places in similar costumes must feel…odd.

That said, not all of her fellow cast members have followed suit. While promoting his new Apple TV+ series Extrapolations, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) said that he has seen “the first few episodes” of House of the Dragon. “I loved it. I think they’ve done a fantastic job with it. Really great job, and I think all the acting in it’s superb.”

Kit Harington: “There’s a pain” in watching House of the Dragon

High praise! That said, it’s a weird experience for him, which is why he hasn’t yet binged the rest of the first season. “It’s hard for me to watch because I lived in it for so long,” he said. “There’s a pain there, y’know? So I’m working my way through it slowly.”

Pressed on what he meant, he tried to one-up Emilia Clarke and her high school reunion analogy: “It’s like you’re watching other people in your costumes.” Again, fair.

The first season of House of the Dragon was a huge hit and HBO is readying the second for release sometime in 2024.

HBO is considering making a Jon Snow sequel, not a prequel

And the network may be prepping some other Game of Thrones spinoffs beyond that. One we’ve heard a lot about is a potential show about Jon Snow, which would follow the former King in the North after he is exiled to the wall in the Game of Thrones series finale.

The interviewer asked Harington if he would appear in a Jon Snow “prequel”; Harington noticed the slip-up. “I think a Jon Snow prequel I’d be about 10 years old, but a sequel is what you might be talking about.”

As for giving out any information, Harington remained mum as always: “Yeah, I can’t tell you anything about that, I’m so sorry.” Stay tuned.
