We’ve just passed our first Sunday with no new episode of HBO’s The Last of Us, and everyone is sad. The good news? Season 2 (and probably 3) are officially on the way! However, don’t expect to see new episodes anytime soon.
During a recent appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, star Bella Ramsey (Ellie) gave her take on when we might see more of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie’s adventures. “It will be a while. I think we’ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next,” she said. “So it’ll probably be the end of 2024, early 2025.”
The first season of the show covered the entirety of the first of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us video games. Season 2 will cover the The Last of Us Part II, which tells a much bigger story. That one will likely take more than one season to adapt.
Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal’s friendship is very real
In the show, Joel and Ellie form a deep bond. Joel ends up caring for her like a father, hence the highly divisive decision he makes in the season finale. Actors Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal became close in real life as well.
“It’s very real,” Ramsey said of her friendship with Pascal. “Imagine if it was all fake? That would be rough.”
With the new season of The Mandalorian now airing, she’s not able to see him as much. “I love him. I miss him. He’s in Los Angeles living his best life. The Mandalorian has just come out so he’s really busy.”
The Last of Us boss teases Abby’s arrival in season 2!
In the first game, the player predominantly controls Joel and occasionally Ellie. However, the second switches things up. We’re introduced to a new playable character: Abby Anderson.
Addressing fans on Twitter the other day, The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann shared a neat poster teasing the story to come. We’d know that arm anywhere. Abby is coming!
Without giving anything away, Abby plays a hugely important role in the second Last of Us game, one that’s sure to get fans talking. The Last of Us season 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max.
