Back when Game of Thrones was on the air, it was the biggest show on TV, and the cast had to keep its secrets to themselves. Perhaps the biggest secret of all was the fate of fan-favorite Jon Snow at the end of season 5. Was he dead, never to return, or could he be revived? The question was debated for an entire year, and during that time, star Kit Harington was pressed to reveal spoilers by everyone… including the British royal family!

This incident occurred during a luncheon at Wimbledon, where Harington found himself seated among royalty. “I got invited to the Royal Box at Wimbledon,” he said during a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. “They have this luncheon beforehand and I just thought we’d go in and grab a buffet or something. We got sat with Camilla and Kate Middleton’s parents, it was like the high table.”

Kate Middleton is the wife of Prince William while Camilla is married to Prince Charles, who will be crowned as king of England in May. With Game of Thrones being the topic on everyone’s minds at the time, Harington was pressed to reveal whether Jon Snow survived his death at the hands of his fellow brothers of the Night’s Watch. At that point, the show had caught up with the books by George R.R. Martin, so not even readers knew what was coming next.

"I couldn’t work out why we were there. It was the off-season, there was a cliffhanger in Game of Thrones where I died. I sat next to Camilla and she said, ‘So, are you actually dead?’ I said, ‘Well, there’s certain things Royals can’t even know.’ I realized I was just there for spoilers."

Those HBO NDAs exclude nobody, including royalty. Kudos to Harrington for keeping his cool.

Despite concluding his journey on Thrones with season 8 in 2019, Harrington is poised to reprise his role in an upcoming Jon Snow spinoff series in development at HBO. Since we heard about it last year, things have gone pretty quiet, so we’ll have to wait and see how it goes. But don’t expect it anytime soon.

In the meantime, the world of ice and fire continues to expand with House of the Dragon. Season 2 is due out next year.
