Kit Harington’s future role in the MCU reportedly being cut or reduced
By Ashley Hurst
When Game of Thrones veteran Kit Harington joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Eternals, viewers were left a bit frustrated by his lack of screen time. His character, Dane Whitman, aka Black Knight, didn’t have a big part. That said, a post-credits scene suggested that Dane Whitman would feature in an upcoming Blade movie, starring Mahershala Ali in the title role. However, a new report suggests that Harington’s role has already been scaled back.
In his final scene of Eternals, Whitman opens an old family box containing the Ebony Blade. Just as he goes to touch it, we hear the voice of Mahershala Ali’s Blade whisper, “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?”
This scene suggests that Black Knight is going to play a big role in the Blade movie. However, Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider reports that things have changed since the. “What they’d cut out I heard is that Blade was gonna tie-in with Eternals and Kit Harington’s Black Knight. Black Knight’s not really involved in the Blade thing anymore,” he told John Rocha’s The Hot Mic.
Kit Harington’s part reportedly cut out of Blade
Apparently, the Blade script has undergone some major work. “Things have shaped up, the script is leaner and meaner and they cut out the fat, but the script I heard about was like 87 pages, like there wasn’t enough and they’d shaved it to the bone,” Sneider added.
Unfortunately, the “fat” appears to be Black Knight. It remains to be seen how much of a part Harington has to play in the movie, if any. We all really want to see him back. I don’t wanna see that post-credits scene go to waste!
There’s still a long wait before Blade returns to the big screen. The movie is slated to premiere on September 6, 2024.
