No, Millie Bobby Brown didn’t turn down a Stranger Things movie
By Dan Selcke
We’re coming up on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which is due out next year (hopefully). That said, Netflix doesn’t intend to let the franchise die. There’s talk of a spinoff, a play on its way to London, and maybe more.
One rumor that’s gotten a lot of traction lately is that breakout star Millie Bobby Brown would feature in a new movie all about her character, the telepath Eleven. But British tabloid The Sun reported that Brown, who’s ready to move on from Eleven, turned down a pay day of £10 million (around $12.2 million) to star in it.
That said, British tabloids are not known for their trustworthiness, so it wasn’t a huge shock to learn that the Stranger Things writers themselves debunked this rumor on Twitter:
Millie Bobby Brown is “ready up wrap up” Stranger Things
So a random rumor on the internet isn’t true. Color us all shocked. But it is true that Brown sounds like she’s ready to move past Stranger Things. She outlined her feelings to Seventeen:
"I’m definitely ready to wrap up. I feel like there’s a lot of the story that’s been told now, and we know of it, it’s been in our lives for a very long time. But I’m very ready to say goodbye to this chapter of my life and open new ones. I’m able to create stories myself that are important to me and focus on the bigger picture. But I’m really grateful [for that show]."
The final season of Stranger Things is sure to be one of the media events of the year when it comes out in 2024. And whether Brown ever returns to the role of Eleven or not, it won’t be the final end.
