The Mummy director has a great idea for a new sequel

Believe it or not, it’s been 15 years since The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor came out. And over a decade plus later, the movie’s star, Brendan Fraser, is now an Academy Award winner thanks to his unbelievable performance in The Whale.
So with all this renewed success (well-deserved, I must add!), is there a chance that Fraser, along with the former cast and creative team, could return for a fourth Mummy movie? Writer-director Stephen Sommers weighed in on the possibility while speaking with SYFY Wire.
Could there be another installment of The Mummy in the future?
According to Sommers, he’d love to come back for another installment. “To me, it has to be [in Egypt],” he said. “It doesn’t have to all be in Egypt. That’s why with the sequel … the beginning starts off in Ancient Egypt and then we go to London for the whole first act. And it’s very adventurous. [I thought] London at night and all this stuff could be very adventurous and fun, but we have to get back to Egypt. Like Tarzan movies, you want him to be in the jungle.”
Oh, like George in the Jungle? “That’s just my personal opinion, but that’s the thing. I just love adventure movies,” Sommers continued. “So yes, if I get a third Mummy movie, you’d have to have it in [Egypt]. I don’t know what percent, I’d have to think about it, but yeah, it has that feel.”
So Sommers has an idea for another Mummy sequel. But could it actually happen? “No one’s mentioned it to me,” the director said.
Well, never say never. Revivals, reboots and sequels are all the rage right now, so it’s as good a time as any to make some moves. We’d love to see Arnold Vosloo come back as Imhotep, or heck, bring in the Rock as the Scorpion King. Just give us another Mummy movie!
