Season 3 of The Mandalorian is in full swing, and the show seems to be setting up a large-scale storyline involving the scattered Mandalorians returning to their homeworld. Episode 2 saw Din Djarin redeem himself by bathing in the waters of the Mines below Mandalore with the help of former heir apparent of the planet Bo-Katan Kryze. During this event, Bo-Katan saw a mythosaur, a gigantic and eldritch beast thought to be extinct. These creatures apparently roamed the surface of Mandalore in the planet’s ancient past before the Mandalorian civilization existed, similar to the dinosaurs in our own history. The first Mandalorians hunted the mythosaurs, and the first Mandalorian helmet was crafted from the beast’s sternum bone. The mythosaur skull is also the symbol of Mandalorians, which was first seen on Boba Fett’s armor in the Star Wars: Episode V –The Empire Strikes Back.
In The Book of Boba Fett, the Armorer tells Din Djarin that the mythasaur was prophesied to return and herald a new age for the planet. But it is unclear what this new age will be, and who will usher it in, since both Din Djarin and Bo-Katan encountered the beast. Djarin was pulled into the waters by it, but we learn that Bo-Katan was the only one of the pair to actually see the mythosaur.
At the end of Episode 3, Djarin and Bo-Katan return to Din’s covert of Mandalorians, which has grown significantly to include dozens of members led by the Armorer. Djarin proves that he bathed in the living waters, and he and Bo-Katan are both redeemed. The final shot is Bo-Katan staring at a mythosaur hanging on the wall, which seemingly teases her as the prophesied hero.
But there’s one problem: Din Djarin is still in possession of the Darksaber, which many see as the symbol of Mandalore’s true leader. Bo-Katan previously held the Saber, but she did acquire it by defeating its previous owner in combat, which is seen as the only way to hold it legitimately.
This is all leading up to a potential showdown between the two formidable warriors for the leadership of the Mandalorian people and the restoration of their planet. This means many familiar faces could be returning to get in on the action or pick sides in a potential conflict. Here are a few notable Star Wars characters who could play a role in the remaining episodes of The Mandalorian season 3.
