The second season of House of the Dragon begins filming very soon. Fans are excited to see what happens after the eventful season 1 finale, where Aemond Targaryen killed his nephew Lucerys Velaryon, raising the temperature on a simmering civil war between rival factions of the Targaryen family.

And now we know more about who will be writing those follow-up episodes. Fansite Watchers on the Wall noticed that David Hancock’s agency website had updated his CV to include a co-executive producer credit on House of the Dragon. It also says he’s written two episodes. According to his CV, Hancock has won an Emmy Award and two Golden Globes.

Hancock is best known for his work on The Crown, Netflix’s series about the British royal family. That’s a pretty good fit for House of the Dragon, which is also a multi-generational story about warring royals, albeit with a lot more blood and dragonfire.

That said, it doesn’t look like Hancock was actually a writer on The Crown, but rather part of the Script and Continuity Department. He also served in that capacity for a couple of other shows. Granted, that’s pretty close to being a scriptwriter, so this will be a lateral move, but it looks like House of the Dragon will mark his debut as a TV scriptwriter.

We can also expect House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal to write a couple episodes in season 2. Gabe Fonseca, Ira Parker, Charmaine DeGraté, Sara Hess, Kevin Lau and Eileen Shim also worked on scripts for season 1.

The second season of House of the Dragon is expected to premiere on HBO and HBO Max sometime in 2024.
