Liv Tyler and Carl Lumby will return to the MCU in Captain America 4
By Daniel Roman
Liv Tyler last appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, but she’s coming back! The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that both Tyler and Carl Lumby have joined the cast of Captain America: New World Order.
While this is exciting news for fans of The Incredible Hulk, it’s not totally out of left field. In The Incredible Hulk, Tyler played Betty Ross, scientist and daughter of General Thaddeus Ross, who was played by the late William Hurt in a handful of Marvel films. We already knew that Harrison Ford is playing Thaddeus Ross in New World Order, and that Tyler’s Incredible Hulk co-star Tim Blake Nelson is also reprising his role as Samuel Sterns.
The Incredible Hulk was the only Marvel film to feature Edward Norton as the titular green giant, before Mark Ruffalo stepped into the part in 2012’s The Avengers. As such, not many MCU movies have made direct reference to The Incredible Hulk. But that’s been changing in recent years, most notably with Hurt’s return as Thaddeus Ross and Tim Roth’s appearance as The Abomination in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk. From the looks of things, Captain America: New World Order will continue the trend.
Carl Lumby to return to the MCU as original super soldier Isaiah Bradley
THR also has it that Carl Lumby will be back as Isaiah Bradley, one of the first super soldiers, before even Captain America. Lumby made his debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where he helped Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) come to terms with the dark history of the super soldier program.
Though Bradley was one of the very first super soldiers, he was erased from history. These revelations were some of the most powerful moments in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series, so it’s beyond exciting to know Lumby will be back for the Mackie-led fourth Captain America film.
Captain America: New World Order is due out on May 3, 2024.
