The Walking Dead: Dead City officially has its premiere date, ladies and gentlemen. It will be the first of several upcoming Walking Dead spinoff shows and I cannot wait!
If you had asked me six years ago if I thought Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) could have a show together, I would have definitely laughed in your face. Never in my wildest dreams did I see this coming. But now that it’s happening, I’m here for it.
The only thing I am not here for is the name change of the spinoff. It was originally titled Isle of the Dead before the switch to The Walking Dead: Dead City. Doesn’t the former sound so much better? I don’t know who is responsible for changing the name, but can we sic some zombies on them?
The Walking Dead: Dead City to premiere in June 2023
During the show’s first WonderCon panel in Anaheim, AMC revealed the series will premiere right after Fear The Walking Dead’s mid-season finale on Sunday, June 18, on AMC and AMC+ at 10:00 p.m. EST. New episodes will air every Sunday at 9:00 p.m. EST in the weeks after, so mark it on your calendars, folks!
As I previously mentioned, Dead City focuses on Maggie and Negan, who have a very complicated, messed-up past. I mean, Negan brutally killed Maggie’s husband with his barbed wire bat. Who knows, maybe they will find a therapist willing to help them in the Big Apple.
Yes, that’s right, the series takes place in New York City about two years after the finale of The Walking Dead. We’ll see Maggie and Negan traverse the streets of New York where the walkers, according to The Walking Dead boss Scott M. Gimple, are going to be some of the “most awesome, disgusting, terrifying walkers” we’ve seen yet. As he told Collider:
"There are a number of horrific walkers, but there is a mind-bendingly horrific walker coming up that I wasn’t on set for, and I’m glad I wasn’t. I got to experience the horrific magic at home, and it is magic. It quite possibly will make you throw up. I would just have something handy nearby, as you watch it."
Sign me up! June can’t get here fast enough.

Along with Dead City, 2023 will also feature The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which takes place in France. The series will air later this year, followed by the untitled Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) spinoff, which will come out in 2024.
And then there’s the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead, which will air in two six-episode blocks, the first on May 14 and the second later this year. Watch the new trailer below:
It’s a lot to look forward to!
