When is the Eragon TV series release date?

The fantasy television gold rush continues! We’ve known for a while now that fantasy author Christopher Paolini’s bestselling Inheritance Cycle series is headed to Disney+, but as the months pass the itch to know more grows stronger.

Beginning with 2002’s Eragon, the series tells the story of a young boy who becomes a dragonrider and overthrows an evil empire. The story continued in three subsequent books: Eldest (2005), Brisinger (2008) and Inheritance (2011). It’s sold over 35 million copies in the years since it was first released. Needless to say, the announcement that it was going to series at Disney+ made a lot of people very happy.

When does the Eragon TV show come out on Disney+?

As of this writing, there’s still no solid release date for the Eragon TV series. It’s been around eight months since the news broke that the series was being developed at Disney+, with Paolini as a co-writer and Bert Salke as a producer. Salke is also one of the people behind Disney+’s upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show based on the books of Rick Riordan, so he seems to be carrying the young adult fantasy flag high for the streamer.

Eragon is early enough in production that no casting has yet been announced for the series. Considering that the first castings for Salke’s Percy Jackson series was announced in early 2022, and that series isn’t slated to release until late 2023 or early 2024, it seems reasonable to expect that we won’t be watching Eragon until late 2024 or even sometime in 2025.

Some fans have already been waiting upwards of 20 years to see Paolini’s series get a faithful screen adaptation (we’re not counting the terrible 2006 movie). We’ll be keeping a close eye on the show for updates.

On the bright side, there will be plenty of new books from Paolini this year to tide fans over. The second book in his adult science fiction Fractylverse series, Fractal Noise, comes out on May 16; and both an illustrated edition of Eragon as well as a brand new sequel story called Murtagh release on November 7.
