Season 2 of The Wheel of Time is approaching on Amazon Prime Video, and the cast has just added a new member. Actor Rima Te Wiata has reportedly joined the series to play Sheriam Sedai, the Aes Sedai in charge of managing aspiring students of the White Tower.

Reliable Wheel of Time fansite WoTSeries first reported on Te Wiata’s potential involvement a while back when they noticed that she appeared in the filming wrap video for season 2. At the time, they weren’t sure who she was playing.

Now, the speculation is at an end. A recent update to the actor’s CV confirms that Te Wiata will be playing Sheriam Bayanar, a member of the Blue Ajah and the Mistress of Novices in the White Tower. Mild book spoilers to follow.

Rima Te Wiata will play Sheriam Sedai in The Wheel of Time season 2

Te Wiata is a veteran actor from New Zealand with numerous film and theater credits to her name, including roles on HouseboundShark in the Park, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. There’s no doubt she’ll bring a lot of experience to the role of Sheriam; an important quality, considering the character’s role in the story.

Sheriam Sedai is the Mistress of Novices at the White Tower, where the Aes Sedai sorceresses make their home. She was first introduced in Robert Jordan’s novel The Great Hunt, which spends a decent chunk of time exploring the tower.

Season 1 of The Wheel of Time ended with Nynaeve al’Meara (Zoë Robins) and Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden) taking part an enormous battle at Tarwin’s Gap, where they had to harness the One Power to keep a horde of Trollocs at bay. Should their story follow the plot laid out in Jordan’s books, season 2 will likely see them head to the White Tower to begin their formal training as Aes Sedai. As such, we’re expecting Sheriam to play a large part in what comes next for Egwene and Nynaeve.

The Wheel of Time season 2 is slated to release sometime later this year. We’ll be keeping a sharp eye out for updates.
