5 villains who could appear in The Batman 2 (and who should play them)
2. Hugo Strange: Played by Mark Strong
One of Batman’s lesser-known adversaries is Dr. Hugo Strange, a psychologist who first appeared in the Batman comics way back in 1940. Strange conducts highly unethical experiments on his subjects and eventually learns how to genetically mutate humans into mutant freaks. Because of his PHD in psychology and ability to profile any individual, Strange is one of the few people to successfully deduce Batman’s secret identity. Strange usually develops an obsession with Batman and views him as the ultimate foe, since his behavioral experiments are usually ineffective on the Dark Knight’s iron-strong will.
The actor who plays Hugo Strange should be unflappable and intimidating, somebody you know is five steps ahead just by the way he looks at you. Enter veteran actor Mark Strong, who has a glare that can sit you back down in your seat. Strong has played action movie villains in films like Kick Ass and Sherlock Holmes. He’s also an intimidating presence in movies like Zero Dark Thirty, The Imitation Game and Body of Lies. He has just the right tools to bring Hugo Strange to life for this new era of Batman.
I also think that from a narrative standpoint, the experiments that Hugo Strange conducts would be a great way to introduce some of the more unrealistic villains from the rogues gallery, like Killer Croc or Solomon Grundy.
