Claudia is being recast for Interview with the Vampire season 2

Interview with the Vampire made a bloody splash last year when it premiered on AMC, being praised for its bold adaptation of Anne Rice’s iconic horror novel and stellar performances from stars Jacob Anderson (Louis), Sam Reid (Lestat), and Bailey Bass (Claudia). The show is reportedly set to begin production on its second season next week in Prague, but with at least one major change to its family of leading vampires: Bass will not be returning for season 2.
Bass played Claudia, a young vampire who grapples with being stuck in a teenage body no matter how many centuries her life spans. Variety reports that Claudia will be played by Delainey Hayles in season 2.

We don’t know exactly why Bass is leaving Interview with the Vampire. The actor’s statement credits the change to “unforeseen circumstances,” while AMC cites “a variety of reasons” for the recast. Which doesn’t tell us a whole lot, except that there are multiple factors at play.
“Due to a variety of unforeseen circumstances I’m unable to return to Anne Rice’s ‘Interview with the Vampire’ for the second season,” Bass said in a statement. “Playing Claudia has been a dream role and an incredible ride. I wish Delainey the best of luck in taking over. I cannot wait to watch. I’m extremely appreciative of AMC, the producers, Jacob, Sam, the crew and, of course, the wonderful fans.”
And here’s the statement from AMC’s spokesperson:
"Bailey Bass is a talented actor who did a remarkable job bringing the character of Claudia to life in Anne Rice’s ‘Interview with the Vampire.’ For a variety of reasons, Delainey Hayles will appear as Claudia in season two. We are grateful for Bailey’s unforgettable performance in season one and wish her nothing but the best."
For right now we can only speculate. Bass also recently appeared as Tsireya in James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, and is expected to reprise the role in future installments in the franchise. Perhaps filming schedules didn’t sync up? Hopefully we’ll find out more in the future.
As for Hayles, the actor has previously appeared in a London stage production of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, as well as the BBC’s Holby City. We’ll see her take on Claudia when Interview with the Vampire season 2 premieres in late 2023 or 2024.
