Pedro Pascal may be the hardest-working man in Hollywood right now. He’s currently starring as the title character in the third season of The Mandalorian on Disney+, he has a film heading to Cannes (Strange Way of Life), and he just wrapped up the first season of The Last of Us on HBO, where his performance as Joel Miller received rave reviews.

The season finale of The Last of Us featured Joel making some morally questionable decisions in his quest to protect young Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The episode has inspired a fair amount of discussion, but Pascal has kept himself out of it. When you’re as busy as he is, that’s probably not hard.

“I feel protected from what the conversation is in a way,” Pascal told Yahoo Entertainment. “And I think that personally I haven’t really been ready for it to sort of be over, so I’ve kept my distance from its finale in a way. It hasn’t intruded upon my experience in terms of what people’s opinions for or against are, in terms of a very specific decision the character makes. I guess I’m actively being ignorant about how everyone feels about it, but it hasn’t been too hard to be, if that makes any sense. No one’s yelled at me in the street. Or been like, ‘How could you do that?’”

Pedro Pascal tries to avoid mixed reactions to his work

Since Pascal has starred in so many high-profile projects, he’s practiced by now at avoiding fan chatter if he wants; remember that he broke out by playing Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones. “I love if the project that everyone has worked so hard on is getting positive attention and is being seen and people are enjoying it, and people are talking about it. I love all of that very, very much,” he said. “But there are things I guess you end up feeling protective about with all the work that you do and the experience that you had doing it. And so if there is any kind of mixed emotions about it, I don’t really look too hard to find them.”

Pascal’s newest project is a series of promos for the mobile app mystery game Merge Mansion; how he fit those into his schedule is beyond me, but they’re fun. He plays a grizzled detective named Tim Rockford. Watch below:

His performance is so effortlessly charming that some fans have called for a full Tim Rockford series, and honestly, I wouldn’t say no. “It has not come up, but anything is possible,” he laughed.
