Simu Liu has had a busy couple of years since he played the lead role in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This guy has been everywhere, and coming this summer, we’ll see him star in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie.

Liu is also starring in a rom-com called One True Loves, which comes out this weekend. He plays a character who falls in love with a woman whose dead husband has returned. Weird? Yes. Am I going to watch it because of Simu Liu? Absolutely.

While all that is super-exciting for Liu, Marvel fans want to know more about the sequel to Shang-Chi. Talking to The A.V. Club, Liu spoke about his time as a Marvel superhero and who he wants to see Shang-Chi paired up with in the MCU.

Who does Simu Liu want Shang-Chi to team up with in the MCU?

Anyone who has been following Simu Liu knows how he found himself playing a Marvel superhero: he was a superfan who tweeted his way into the role.

“Yeah, I had seen every single one. I tweeted multiple times, ‘Hey, Marvel. How about an Asian superhero?’ I was well on my way to being a superfan,” Liu said. “I love superhero movies. I think superhero movies speak to the inner misfit in me—the person who never felt like he fit in, who asked if there was something more, or a greater destiny, or a chance that I could become something greater.”

Shang-Chi was a huge turning point for the franchise when it came to Asian representation, opening the doors for other Marvel properties like Ms. Marvel! I have never felt more seen than when watching Iman Vellani play a Pakistani-American Muslim young woman/superhero. It was a surreal feeling, and I thank Shang-Chi for helping that happen!

But I digress! Liu was asked what was next for Shang-Chi and who he would like to see him teamed up with. “I know what movie I’m going to be in next, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to tell you, unfortunately,” he laughed. “I’m sworn to secrecy! As far as the character I would most want to team up with, I’m such a big fan of Korg. I think Korg and Shaun would have lots of fun banter while going on adventures and fighting crime.”

I would love to see him team up with Korg from the Thor movies! That would be so entertaining. Kevin Feige, if you’re reading this, please make it happen! As for when we can expect the sequel to Shang-Chi? Liu had nothing to say about that, so we’ll probably have to wait until the next big comic convention to learn more. Tune in, folks!
