Marvel is getting its ducks in a row for 2023. Its next big release is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which comes out this May. And later in the year, we’ll get The Marvels, the sequel to 2019′ Captain Marvel.
Actually, The Marvels is a sequel to at least three different Marvel things. Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) is from Captain Marvel. But the movie also involves Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), a new superhero we met on the Disney+ show WandaVision. And then there’s Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), the star of Ms. Marvel, another Disney+ show. The three of them get caught up in a mess where they seem to switch places with each other whenever they use their powers.
And Samuel L. Jackson is there as Nick Fury to tie it all together. Watch the trailer below:
The Marvels will explore “some of the complexities” of Captain Marvel
I sense some danger here, because in order to fully appreciate this movie, you need to not only have seen Captain Marvel, but two different Disney+ shows. Is Disney overestimating how much homework viewers are willing to do?
In any case, Brie Larson talked about what expect from the movie on Good Morning America, saying that the film would explore “some of the complexities of the character.”
"The first one was the origin story of who she is. Now it’s digging into some of the complexities. That there is much more to her than that, that there are parts that are not so great about her. That we can see a hero as being a person that doesn’t make every right decision all the time."
The Marvels comes out this November.
