First came Game of Thrones, the fantasy phenomenon that wrapped up on HBO after eight seasons on the air. Now the network is airing the prequel series House of the Dragon, set well over 100 years before the events of the original show.

Now there’s a new Game of Thrones in development: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will adapt George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, about a huge knight named Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Aegon Targaryen, aka Egg.

Unlike House of the Dragon, this show will appear on the streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max), rather than on HBO proper. Also, George R.R. Martin will write at least one episode on it, according to the press release.

When does Max’s new Game of Thrones prequel show premiere?

Beyond that, we know very little about the show. They haven’t announced any casting decisions, and they probably won’t for a while; this is in the very early stages.

That means we don’t know when the show might premiere, but it won’t be in the immediate future. The second season of House of the Dragon is filming right now and will probably air on both HBO and on Max sometime in 2024. We can expect to see A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms after that, maybe in 2025 or 2026.

House of the Dragon is due to last four seasons. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms could be well positioned to feed the Game of Thrones faithful after it’s over.
