Did The Mandalorian sneakily drop the first F-bomb in Star Wars history?
By Daniel Roman
Things got serious on the latest episode of The Mandalorian, with various clans of Mandalorians finally uniting to retake their homeworld of Mandalore. As it turns out, it may have also featured the first F-bomb in Star Wars history. Maybe. Possibly.
“The Spies” features an appearance by the Anzellans, the little alien speices that serve as expert droid mechanics on Nevarro. As the Mandalorians gear up for their trip to Mandalore, one of the Anzellans brings in a remodeled version of the IG-12 droid for Grogu to use as a walking combat suit. As they hop out so Grogu can try it out, the Anzellan barks a warning: “Bad baby! No squeeze!” This is a reference to the season premiere, where Grogu gave one of the Anzellans a big ol’ hug.
Anzellan has had enough of Grogu’s “squeezies,” drops F-bomb on him
Immediately after warning Grogu to “no squeezie,” the Anzellan continues muttering. It generally sounds like gibberish, and the subtitles label it only as “(SPEAKS ANZELLAN).” But a lot of fans have pointed out that this particular bit of gibberish sounds an awful lot like a string of cursing; “I’m out mother f**ker,” to be specific.
Is this a case of the Internet just being the Internet? Probably. Disney posted this particular clip to the official The Mandalorian Twitter account, so you can make up your own mind about what the Anzellan is saying:
Did The Mandalorian just make Star Wars history by sneaking the first F-bomb into the franchise? Was an audio designer bored and seeing what they could get away with? Will Disney+ adjust this probably innocuous but seemingly offensive line?
All questions will be answered in good time. The season 3 finale of The Mandalorian premieres this Wednesday on Disney+.
