Thanks to their work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Joe and Anthony Russo are two of the most successful superhero movie directors ever. Their movie Avengers: Endgame currently stands as the second highest-grossing movie of all time at the worldwide box office. Might we one day see them make the switch and helm a DC movie? With James Gunn building out his own DC continuity, they are very much receptive to the idea.

DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have previously revealed that they’re making a Batman movie called The Brave and the Bold, featuring an all-knew caped crusader. “This will be different from Robert Pattinson’s Batman movies, which will also go forward.) With this fresh restart, Joe and Anthony Russo have expressed interest in joining the team.

“Obviously James over there running it, it would be a no-brainer. We love him to death. We love the direction he’s going to take that world in,” Joe Russo told ComicBook.com. “You know he’s gonna be inventive with it.”

Given their track record with superhero movies, any DC project involving the Russo brothers is always going to be an exciting prospect. Let’s hope it happens. And who knows, perhaps we’ll see them back in the director’s chair for a future Marvel project as well!

Batman is Joe and Anthony Russo’s favorite DC hero

The Russos were also asked about their favorite DC characters. While Joe Russo mostly enjoyed Marvel heroes growing up — predominantly Spider-Man and X-Men — he read a lot of Batman too:

"And favorite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones. I always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man — actually, the three — were Spider-Man. X-Men and Batman. But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that’s an obvious answer."

Of course, Batman is an easy answer given how often he’s appeared in print. “But, you know, it’s hard not to answer that,” Anthony Russo said. “Here’s how you know we haven’t actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favorite character for my entire childhood. But obviously, it’s been well explored.”

The duo most recently worked as executive producers on Citadel, which drops on Prime Video of April 28.

James Gunn begins work on Superman: Legacy!

Meanwhile, the next Superman movie will be a reboot called Superman: Legacy, which will pick up with a younger Clark Kent. Production is not likely to commence until sometime next year, but James Gunn shared on Twitter what looked like a completed script:

Exciting times ahead! Note that Gunn has changed his Twitter header to be Superman-themed. He’s really getting into this!
