When is Shazam 2 coming out on HBO Max?

Shazam 2, aka Shazam: Fury of the Gods, dropped into theaters on March 17 of 2023, and it did pretty poorly. The budget was around $125 million and it only took in $132 million worldwide. The rule of thumb is that a movie needs to make back around double it’s budget to make a profit. You do the math.

But maybe people were just waiting to watch this one on streaming? If that’s the case, they don’t have too much longer to wait, since Shazam 2 will be streaming on HBO Max on May 23.

That said, technically the movie won’t be streaming on HBO Max. It’ll be streaming on Max; Warner Bros. Discovery is shortening the name as it combines HBO Max with Discovery+. We all start calling it just “Max” officially on May 23, the same day Shazam 2 comes to streaming.

When is Shazam: Fury of the Gods coming out on HBO Max?

The Shazam movies star Zachary Levi as a kid who gets superhuman powers courtesy of a wizard. The first movie was a decent-sized hit, hence the sequel. A shame things dropped off.

Anyway, there’s little hope of seeing Levi back as Shazam. Even if the second movie hadn’t bombed, James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently retooling the DC Cinematic Universe and will reboot the whole thing with a new crop of heroes and actors soon enough.
