Despite all the threats the Marvel heroes face — world-ending villains, multiversal chaos, personal trails, etc — none of them has ever the F-bomb, probably because Disney won’t let them; Marvel is a family-friend franchise, after all.

But Disney’s lockdown on cussing is about to change: James Gunn has managed to sneak an F-bomb into Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3!

In a new clip from the movie, the team are in a hurry, but Nebula (Karen Gillan) is unable to figure out how to open a car door. In his frustration, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) spits out the forbidden word. It’s bleeped, but we all know what he’s saying:

Nebula’s restraint in not just tearing the door clean off represents a lot of growth, right?

Anyway, when it comes to swearing in Marvel, we’re not counting Netflix shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, where cussing was widespread. The only previous time the F-bomb was uttered in the franchise was during the post-credit scene in Avengers: Infinity War, where Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) said “Motherf—“ before being turned to dust. He didn’t actually finish his sentence, but it was implied.

Outside the MCU, there’s been cussing in in movies like Ghost Rider, Wolverine and Venom. And of course Deadpool has a filthy mouth. It’ll be interesting to see how many times the F-bomb is used in Deadpool 3! Now that Disney is officially the movie, will they tone things down?

Critics praise Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

As the Guardians Vol. 3, ita gonna be one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Critics are giving it fantastic reviews: El Español’s Valentina Morillo hailed the movie as the “best Marvel film since Endgame,” while Digital Spy’s Ian Sandwell called it a “brilliant end to a brilliant trilogy.”

Prepare for a slightly darker story. “Despite the humor #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 is probably the saddest & darkest MCU film & a wonderfully rounded conclusion to Gunn’s trilogy, where everyone in the fight against a mean (but rather shallow) villain gets their big moment again,“ wrote Markus Trutt of FilmStarts.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 drops in theaters on May 5.
